OPINIONS OF HINDU PHOBICS HAVE BEEN LISTENED -GOOD What NON-Hindu -Western Intellectual Scholars have to say about Hindus ? (1) Professor Robert Arnett=>" Hinduism is a very tolerant religion. It does not have claim exclusivity of the true God for only itself (2) "We Are All Hindus Now" By Lisa Miller | NEWSWEEK--Published Aug 15, 2009 "The Rig Veda, the most ancient Hindu scripture, says this: 'Truth is One, but the sages speak of it by many names.' A Hindu believes there are many paths to God. Jesus is one way, the Qur'n is another, Yoga practice is a third. None is better than any other; all are equal. The most traditional, conservative Christians have not been taught to think like this. They learn in Sunday school that their religion is true, and others are false. Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.'" (3) Professor Loriliai Biernacki,Professor of Religious Studies, University of Colarado at Boulder,(USA) –First published in “Washington Post” and reproduced in News India Times,August,6,2010-page -2 “As meme this spread of Hindu conceptual Tenets (Yoga-Karma-,Re-Incarnation) augurs a more healing and soulful Alternative to the mechanizations of our (American) lives, our bodies and our minds. It promises a relief from the heavy burden of a “Soulless” Capitalism” (4) Professor Rev.Fr. Francis.X.Clooney,S.J..(Society of Jesuits)—Professr,Divinity School.Harvard University.First published in www.Americanmagazine.org 24,July,2010—reproduced in News India Times,August,6,2010--page-3.. “While NOT getting Professor Biernacki’s point, we may rather ironically find that for many the JESUS of the CHURCH will remain a distant and Institutional Figure, while JESUS seen through HINDU eyes may be more powerful Spiritual Figure”. (5) Professor Ramdas.Lamb,(Converted to Hinduism) Professor,University of Hawaii.(USA) first published in “Washington Post” ,reproduced in News India Times,August,13,2010-page-2. “Significantly ,un-like my Christian Teachers, my Hindu Teachers did not tell me what I had to believe-what sectarian label I had to wear.—Instead they taught me various Religious practices that would help me to focus on finding the answers from ‘Within”. (6) “The Hindu Genius is a love for abstraction and at the same time a passion for concrete image. It is abstract, realistic, intellectual, pedantic and sublime.-----(Dr.Octavio Paz—Mexican Nobel Laureate in Literature) (7)Hindu ”Vedhantha" is the most impressive Metaphysics the Human mind has conceived”---(Prof,Alfred North Whitehead (British Mathematician and Philosopher) (8) “We the Occident (Euro-Americans) are about to arrive at a cross road that was reached by the thinkers of Indian (Hindus) hundreds of years before CHRIST”------(Heinrich Zimmer—German Historian and Indologist) (9) PHILOSEMITISM India’s Jews - A proud and continuing heritage, free of anti-Semitism "There is a fine piece in Forbes by Gary Weiss on India's Jews (08 /13 /2007): “India may be the only country in the world that has been free of anti-Semitic prejudice throughout its history. As the Jewish genealogical journal Avotaynu recently observed in an article on one Indian Jewish group, “The Bene Israel flourished for 2,400 years in a tolerant land that has never known anti-Semitism, and were successful in all aspects of the socio-economic and cultural life of the people of the region.” Comparing India with Europe, Gary Weiss writes: “But in 'backward' India, from the beginning, the Jewish communities have not only been free of discrimination but have dominated the commercial life of every place where they have settled - something that has fed traditional European anti-Semitism.” Indian Jews were not free of persecution : “Kochi's Jews were indeed persecuted IN Goa --not by Indian(Hindus) but by the Portuguese (Evangelists), following in the glorious traditions of the "Inquisition"-. With the help of the Hindu Maharaja (King), Kochi's Jewish community rebuilt its synagogue, burned by the Portuguese (Portugeese Evangelists) , in its current location near his Maharajah's palace. It has remained there, unmolested, ever since.”

I think Islam in some countries is operating the same way Christianity did during the Salem Which Trials; the abuse of other people has little to do with the written word. In both cases, holy text was used to justify violence. Nowadays Christians and Jews do not stone people do death as required by scripture. They even wrangle over the idea of death as a penalty at all. Advanced cultures have grown out of the idea that religious text must be followed by rote in their governing bodies, which allows them to treat people better. But you mean free political speech, as in speaking out against your government. Such Free Speech is a direct challenge to a government and was added to the US Constitution because of abuse under colonial rule. The founding Fathers of America had learned about the price of not having free speech and wanted to be sure to make it legal. It is also a significant check on government power. Many governments in Muslim countries have not accepted free speech since it challenges their power; they rely on Quran text to justify it. By its very nature, written religion makes free religious speech difficult since the Word is considered the Word of God; how can you argue with that? As long as we see Muslims fleeing their countries for free countries we know that to a large degree free speech has been disallowed. Jordan, Lebanon and Dubai are more advanced and show signs of hope that the intolerance may stop someday. I am greateful to have had free speech in my life and to have the freedom to read books like "1984", "Atlas Shrugged" and "Catcher in the Rye". How do we know that what we know is true unless we challenge ourselves to really think?

Free speech comes w responsibility. The Pope isn't an artist or journalist but a man of God and a statesman whose mission is peace and love etc. Therefore his duty is top promote peace and to be diplomatic and encourage tolerance. The words, though quoted from an ancient passage, still cannot be construed by any reasonable person as promoting tolerance and peace. A person without belief may find it difficult to understand why a faithful Muslim person would be offended if that person's prophet is slandered in the most offensive way possible to him/her. Its kind of like explaining what it feels like to be freezing cold to a person who has never left the tropics. it takes much introspection and wisdom to even begin to learn ow others feel that have radical differences from yourself. Furthermore persons of little education and surrounded by poverty and oppression, will probably not have the option of writing an "op-ed" article to express his/her opinion. Certainly there are many many who have either done nothing or used peaceful means to express their displeasure with popes current fiasco, but as always the few who act out get in the news. Perhaps is this intended so as to provoke more violence and hence more severe confrontation between the different religions. Even though that can never justify violence, it is a consequence of the world's situation today and is reality. As for being a cartoonist, I would say pick fun at everyone but not a persons spiritual leader or prophet such as Jesus,Muhammad, or Buddha. If one is clever he/she can have freedom of speech without lowering oneself to the level of say, the Iranian holocaust cartoon contest. Well, maybe everyone should have the right to say or draw whatever they want, but do you personally want to be the one writing nonsensical gratuitously hurtful ones? Most would say they have better instincts than that and would probably avoid it. Surely one can argue on and on about complete freedom as being needed, but I believe the world and life in general never follows such rules. In the end you still have to care if you have one drop of humanity left inside.

Hindu nationalism is ugly and uncivilized. I'm surprised how primitively people can act with the sophistication, education, technology, and arts that India has. A nuclear power should meet higher standards of internal tolerance and should defuse rather than inflame old ethnic scores.

Montana Originally Answered: When unifying with Islam, as Obama promised today, what preconditions do Muslims bring to the chopping block?
This is a good question for the elite at Georgetown University, who made a pact in this regard some time ago. Never mind the rest of us AMERICANS who prefer our CONSTITUTIONAL legacy of Sovereignty, Freedom, and a JUDEO-Christian Heritage that simultaneously recognizes this sovereign nation's settlement by Dissenters from Church-State regimes (see Liberty Bell AND essays by Thomas Jefferson, and many others) to Global "Dialogue" between Theocratic Oligarchies. "In December 2005, the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (CMCU) *received* a $20 million dollar gift from HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, an internationally renowned businessman and global investor, to support and expand the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. The Center was renamed the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (ACMCU). This endowed fund was the second largest single gift in Georgetown University history." Now, how does this reckon with this: http://explore.georgetown.edu/documents/... No wonder McCain glibly remarked that Sarah Palin was disdained by the Georgetown Cocktail circuit. I doubt that she would bow to these guys, and would not do business with their facilitator (PIMP) KHALID AL-MANSOUR, screaming antisemite and anti-Christian. Do the learned MEN of Georgetown hope that us Americans lack the "understanding" that Don Warden/Al-Mansour is Talal's agent and that this Cock Tail circuit is collaborating with those who not only hate the Jews but lecture on the death of Christianity? Does the death of Christianity not offend the "understanding" of the proud Georgetown elite? . .
