First of all, you do NOT need to go to a church to be a Christian. That is a fallacy. Jesus said that where ever two or three gather in his name he is there. Try to find a couple other like minded people and get together with them for regular Bible studies. I would also suggest that you stop reading the book of Revelation. It is a great book, but not for entertainment. I would start reading 1, 2 and 3 John. They are about love and what it really means to be a follower of the Messiah. They were written by someone who knew Jesus personally and are very uplifting. I would also check out ministries by people of the Netzarim faith. A great website that has helped me is www.therefinersfire.org If you are really wanting to follow God you need to realize that it is very likely that almost everything that you church has told you is a lie. Check out some of their article about challenging "christianity". The Bible talks a lot about how things will be in the last days, and they definitely describe the church today. People having a form of godliness but lacking the power thereof jumps to mind. The most important thing is like James the Apostle and brother of Jesus said, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." James 1:5. Don't stop reading the Bible, read Psalms and Proverbs for some uplifting passages and like I said the letters of John including the gospel of John. Revelation is hard to understand and it is very easy to become depressed reading it, much like the book of Ecclesiastes. Most importantly pray without ceasing, and find a few like minded people to help you to study God's word. I will pray for you. Feel free to email me with further questions.

And I'm in that category that would pay more taxes if the "rich people" tax rate goes up, so I'm not being hypocritical.
"Taxing rich people would mean the incentive to innovate would be reduced..."
Poppycock. Absolute nonsense. And proven so -- people were no less innovative under Clinton's tax rates than under Bush's. In fact, taxing high earners more quite often leads to more "innovation" and investment, since they want to earn more to offset what taxes they pay.
If you wanted to imprison someone's mind - to convince someone of something and make them believe it - what do you think the bars of that cage might be? Perhaps:
* Indoctrinating children from a young age when they're too young to think for themselves?
* Scaring them with threats about an afterlife?
* Telling them a magical book has all the answers?
I'm sure you can think of others. What's evidence has anyone ever given you to prove what your religion says is true?
Ask questions, question everything and don't be scared of what you might find out.

So you're worried about going to Hell? Why would a just, omni-present God punish you for not having conviction in something he himself has not given you sufficient evidences to substantiate, and knows it.

if you keep these 7 laws you will have an equal share in the world to come.
* To behave justly in all relationships, and to establish courts of justice.
* To refrain from blaspheming Gods name.
* To refrain from practicing idolatry.
* To avoid immoral practices, specifically incest and adultery.
* To avoid shedding the blood of ones fellow man.
* To refrain from robbing ones fellow man.
* To refrain from eating a limb torn from a live animal.
