Question: DO YOU AGREE WITH ME ON THIS STATEMENT ABOUT EVOLUTION? The only reason The Church denies Theistic Evolution (God created the universe and used evolution and science, to develop humans gradually.) is because they would lose even more money than they already have lost since some people have begun to start thinking for themselves. I think that if the Church accepts Theistic Evolution then all Christians would have no problem switching over to another belief. (Personally I think diehard Christians who fight for Christianity are either very gullible or are just very scared of the unknown and like to accept these irrational beliefs because it simply makes them feel better) 36 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details Skeptikitten: I was referring to the Catholic Church : ). Are you sure they accept it? and if they do why do so many Catholics still deny it. I think they should start incorporating Theistic Evolution into the sermons and such it really is a good balance of religion and science! This isn't a rant I'm just extremely curious about these things. I would really love to know if The Church accepts Theistic Evolution : ) Not trying to offend anyone by the way lol. I'm not bashing anyone's beliefs at all I'm just saying why isn't this more accepted since there is a lot of proof for evolution and Theistic evolution does not say there is no God. :p Thanks for the answers 20 minutes ago The John: It was painful to read your response lol. 17 minutes ago The John (Again): I was just reading your response again, monkeys and us have a common ancestor, we're not descendants of monkeys. I think you were implying that in what you wrote lol. 8 minutes ago I was raised Roman Catholic by the way, but now my beliefs are close to that of an agnostic theist. Growing up all my religious teachers would yell at me if I questioned anything about what they said..Adam and Eve all that stuff. I'm only 18 right now I always was an inquisitive one haha.

It sounds like you have been misinformed. The Church supports Theist Evolution. Truth cannot contradict Truth. -- Pope Leo XIII Most Jews and Christians do not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. We believe the stories included in first 11 chapters of Genesis tell religious truth but not necessarily historical fact. One of the religious truths is that God created everything and declared all was good. Catholics can believe in the theories of the big bang or evolution or both or neither. On August 12, 1950 Pope Pius XII said in his encyclical Humani generis: The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter - for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God. Here is the complete encyclical: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_x... And here is the Address of Pope John Paul II to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on October 22, 1996 speaking of the Theory of Evolution: http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_jp... Here is an interesting article about Pope John Paul II's opinion in the matter: http://www.americamagazine.org/content/a... The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the big bang and evolution are the most logical scientific explanations. As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and responsible modern science can live in harmony. Here is a nice list of Christian thinkers in science: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_thinkers_in_science The Clergy Letter Project an open letter endorsing the Theory of Evolution signed by over 10,000 clergy from many different Christian denominations: http://www.butler.edu/clergyproject/rel_evol_sun.htm I suggest you read "New Proofs for the Existence of God: Contributions of Contemporary Physics and Philosophy" by Robert J. Spitzer http://www.amazon.com/New-Proofs-Existence-God-Contributions/dp/0802863833 With love in Christ.

Maybe she doesn't know HOW....it sounds silly but some people are gifted with natural born talent in that dept. Good Luck man and thanks for the laugh ;o)

Actually the pope himself believes evolution is a real process, but with God behind it. So I think the main reason why people are not "buying" into the concept of evolution is due to lack of knowledge. I mean, just ask the people who don't believe in evolution: what's the highest degree in science you have achieved? It also makes me a bit upset that they don't even try to read books like "Greatest show on Earth".

Bottom line: The CC says one can disbelieve in evolution, not believe in evolution, or believe in evolution. If one believes in it, he is also obligated to believe that God authored it.

Actually, I'm Atheist and I don't agree. They actually believe that a god made Earth and all those other stories. They think that if all the other intelligent is right then they're wrong, which is impossible because the bible says so and the bible is always right because it was written by god and god exists because the bible says so.
