Literary elements are basically the strategies the author was using to create an impact. It could be figurative language (e.g, symbolism, metaphor, personification, simile etc.). It could be allusion (e.g, references to biblical stories either directly or indirectly - it could also be to something else, but the Bible is a common one). It could be the structure of the book (for example, The Grapes of Wrath has chapters that tell the story of a family, the Joads, and then in between those chapters of ones that tell other stories, like of a turtle crossing a road). It could be the plot elements (setting, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, denouement) and techniques related to that (e.g. foreshadowing). It could be narrative voice - first, third limited or third omniscient. Hope that helps!
