equation 1 7s + 20 = 4s -13 7s - 4s = -13 - 20 3s = -33...divide both sides by 3 s = -11 equation 2 -2(-w+3)=15 2w - 6 = 15 2w = 15 + 6 2w = 21...divide both sides by 2 w = 21/2 or 10.5 equation 3 3(4v-1)-8v=17 12v - 3 - 8v = 17 4v = 17 - 3 4v = 14...divide both sides by 4 v = 7/2 or 3.5 hope that helps (-_-)

7s + 20 = 4s-13 (by transposition) 7s - 4s = -20-13 3s = -33 3s/3 = -33/3 s= -11 -2(-w+3)=15 (distribute -2) 2w-6=15 (transpose -6) 2w=15+6 2w=21 2w/2=21/2 w=10 1/2 3(4v-1)-8v=17 (distribute 3) 12v-3-8v=17 (transpose -3) 12v-8v=3+17 4v=20 4v/4=20/4 v=5

I think this is just a literal equation that needs to be solved for a, which means you need to get a by itself on one side of the equal sign. I would do this as follows: a + ar = b + r a(1 + r) = b + r *Factor out the a a = (b+r)/(1+r) *Divide both sides by (1 + r)
