Question: I'm interested in Police work and I was wondering since i'm from Canada how much it goes on here. If there are any articles about this that you could find on the internet would be great to!

All police departments in Canada (federal, provincial, municipal, military...) employ UC ops in some form when required. UC, spin (surveillance) and electronic surveillance often go together depending upon the situation however they are time consuming, resource intensive and fraught with risk. At the same time however they are an essential part of major case investigation depending upon the circumstances. Officers for UC ops are drawn from the department and members are chosen for their ability to blend in depending upon the circumstances, think on their feet, work independently and make mature and rational decisions. They are the best of the best at what they do for they must be in order to remain effective and, most importantly, alive. You are not going to find much to read online as any of the info on ongoing ops is classified and anything old is usually close hold in order to protect the ID of the UC involved. It also would involve the exposure of various police tactics so for those reasons you won't find much open source info. There are a few books though that past UCs have written and can be found at Chapters. Both American and Canadian based.

Yes, UC operations are used just as, if not more, often as the US. Laws being different in Canada allow UC officers a little more freedom than do some laws in the US.

Richmond and Surrey are different cities and Arbutus is really nice but not too happening. There's no way you'll save money on that budget and I don't know that you'll find a place with those criteria. I think you should look for roommates. West end and Yaletown are probably what you're going for but they're really expensive. You won't find many apartments with washer/dryers built in (almost all bldgs have laundry rooms) and many won't have dishwashers. Apartments typically include utilities, but not always. Good luck!

The neighbourhoods that would fit into your criteria are: - West End - Yaletown - Kits (West Broadway, Arbutus Walk, West 4th, Cornwall) - Kerrisdale - Mackenzie Heights - Dunbar - West 10th/UBC - Fairview - Marpole $1000 is what can be expected but in some neighbourhoods that will not include utilities. $1500 for rent, utilities, cable, phone, internet and laundry is what you can expect to pay close to the downtown core if you don't want to live in East Van.
